Choose 9:16 and decide how each clip fills the frame: a cropped slice you can pan, the whole shot over a blurred copy of itself, or a plain fit. Auto (subject) suggests a pan using Apple's on-device Vision framework; check it and adjust.
Phone footage recorded sideways, upside down or at a variable frame rate exports the right way up and at a steady frame rate.
We test every export with tools that share no code with the app. Across 100 random cuts: no dropped or duplicated frames, and audio within 0.1 ms of the picture. Captions appear on the first frame of their cue. A 10-minute 1080p export took 83 seconds on our Mac mini.

No. Speech recognition runs on your Mac with whisper.cpp, and preview and export use Apple's AVFoundation. Stillreel works offline. The only network request it makes is to check your licence key with Gumroad, our store; it sends the key and the product id, nothing else.

The language menu offers English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese, plus Detect language. We have measured English and German with real voices and checked French with a synthetic voice. The others use the same Whisper model but we haven't measured them yet, so try a short clip first.
